Sure wins Isle of Man Government’s mobile business
Sure has been chosen by the Isle of Man Government to provide its mobile services following a competitive tender process.
The local telecoms company has migrated more than 6,000 government mobile services to the Sure network as part of the contract as well as delivering an online billing portal, full service management reporting suite and a Mobile Telecommunication Privileged Access Scheme (MTPAS) which offers priority access to the mobile network for key government personnel such as the emergency services.
The news follows the recent announcement that independent telecommunication network experts Systemics have found Sure’s network to be the best overall and fastest in the Isle of Man. Sure’s 4G network was found to be the fastest for data downloads, its 4G+ coverage far more extensive – covering 75% of the island, and its network also delivered superior call quality and clarity.
Mike Phillips, CEO of Sure in the Isle of Man, said that the award of the contract is a positive endorsement of the company’s network and is a result of its ongoing investment and expansion on the island.
“The Isle of Man Government is the largest employer in the island and it is a great show of confidence in Sure, our mobile network and the expertise of our local team that we have won this significant piece of business,” said Mr Phillips.
“We’ve made substantial investments in our infrastructure over the last decade and as a result the quality and reliability of our mobile network are of a very high standard. This has been evidenced by our network recently being named the best overall and fastest mobile network in the Isle of Man by leading independent benchmarking solutions provider Systemics-PAB. This is a great achievement for our business and we are pleased that the Isle of Man Government has recognised the strengths of our mobile network and has chosen Sure to provide its mobile services.
“It is vital for government professionals working in areas such as health, education and the emergency services to have access to a strong, consistent and fast mobile network which they can rely on so we’re proud that this responsibility has been entrusted to us. We will be working closely with the government to back its mobility plans and ensure its mobile communications are fully futureproof.”
The contract was awarded after a robust and competitive tender process which involved a detailed examination of Sure’s mobile infrastructure and its plans for future investment.
Through the tender process Sure demonstrated its ability to deliver not only cost savings and additional value to the Isle of Man Government but also presented a superior service, implementation strategy, service management ethos and a clear roadmap for innovation and service evolution compared to other tender responses.
Richard Wild, Executive Director of Government Technology Services (GTS), commented: “Following on from this rigorous and detailed selection process, I’m looking forward to working with Sure, maintaining and developing the kind of mobile, interconnected service that we are all proud to support.”
