Former national ice dancing champion to open Ice Skate Jersey

The ice rink at Fort Regent will be officially opened on Thursday 7 December by former national ice dancing champion, and new island resident, Charlotte Clements Bisson.

Ice Skate Jersey, sponsored by Sure, returns to Fort Regent this year for the seventh time and forms part of the Festive Fort celebrations.

Mrs Clements Bisson, a two-time ice dancing gold medallist at the British Figure Skating Championships, will cut the ribbon for the rink after an introduction from her father David Clements, who was a distinguished skating coach. The family has recently relocated to Jersey.

The opening ceremony begins at 5pm and the cutting of the ribbon will be followed by a short routine from Ice Skate Jersey’s resident coach Robert Proctor.

Trudie Halstead of Ice Skate Jersey said: “As a former national champion, Charlotte is the perfect person to officially open Ice Skate Jersey for 2017.

“She and her young family have moved to the island and the warm welcome they have received has made them feel a part of the community here. We’re very pleased that she’ll open this year’s event and that Robert will get to demonstrate some high-quality ice skating for guests.”

Louise Burrows, head of marketing at Sure, said: “We’re so pleased that Ice Skate Jersey is back this year as we know that a trip to the rink is such an important part of the festivities for many islanders.”

The rink, which consists of real ice 100mm thick and chilled to -5.6˚, is 800m2 in size and includes a dedicated rink for children to use and where private lessons will take place.

Ice Skate Jersey will run from 7 December 2017 until 14 January 2018 and will again be open to the public as well as available to hire for corporate events and private parties.


Tickets can be purchased on the day and in advance at the Ice Skate Jersey ticket booth within the piazza at Fort Regent.
